Cat Food

The best cat food is nutritionally complete, high in animal protein, and easy to digest. Since cats are obligate carnivores, choose food with quality meat or fish as the main ingredient, along with essential nutrients such as taurine to support heart and eye health.

Steer clear of cat food with low meat, artificial additives, added sugar, or excess salt, as these can upset your cat’s digestion. Some cats also react to dairy, soy, gluten, or eggs, so avoid these if your cat has a sensitive stomach or skin. Certain foods, such as grapes, are toxic to cats, which is why it is safest to pick a trusted brand that follows FEDIAF nutritional guidelines.

How much you feed depends on your cat’s age, weight, and activity level. Always check the feeding guidelines on your chosen cat food and adjust based on your cat’s needs. You can also use our cat food calculator to work out the right portion size. Remember, guidelines are a starting point and may need tweaking to suit your cat’s lifestyle.

Complete cat food contains every nutrient your cat needs and can be fed as a full diet. Incomplete cat food, such as some toppers, mixers, or treats, should only be given alongside a balanced diet because it does not provide everything your cat requires. Always check the label to make sure you are feeding a complete recipe for long-term health.
